Participating in the 2024 IL SHRM Student Conference provides our students the inclusive opportunity to learn by working through challenging HR case studies and coming up with a solution within a limited time frame. Judges assess presentations on how well the team navigates through situations that most likely they will face in their future HR jobs.
This year’s benefits include:

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?
Team Eligibility:
- Maximum of up to 3 (three) teams from each campus.
- Teams should include a minimum of 3 (three) team members and a maximum of 5 (five).
- Switching teammates is permitted until the start of the games. However, there will be no switching of team members during the games.
- Students from a college/university where no SHRM student chapter exists may form a team.
WHEN DOES FUN START?
Saturday, October 5th from 9 am to 4 pm at Northern Illinois University, School of Business, Barsema Hall, 740 Garden Road, DeKalb, IL 60115.
- Case study will be given in advance
- Case competition is from 9 am – 2 pm
- Networking and Judge Deliberation 2 pm – 3:30 pm
- Case Competition Winner Presentation & Closing Remarks 3:30 pm
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each team will have 30 minutes to present their cases and 15 minutes for Q&A.
Judges will use a rubric to score the oral presentations based on the teams’ ability to analyze the information presented in the case and clearly and effectively communicate the recommended course of action, using the rubric provided.

Registration – registration is open.
September 6, 2024:
Registration – deadline to register for the IL Student Case Competition.
September 9, 2024:
Case Release – team captains will receive the case via email.
September 30, 2024:
Presentations/Executive Summary due by 5:00 pm (Central time)
