Illinois Student HR Conference & Case Competition

 

The 2023 Illinois Student Case Competition is an exciting and unique opportunity for students across the state to learn, connect with their peers, networking with HR professionals, and participate in a competitive HR challenge.

Participating in the IL Student HR Conference & Case Competition provides students the inclusive opportunity to learn by working through challenging HR case studies to come up with an innovative solution within a limited time frame. Judges assess presentations on how well the team navigates through situations that most likely they will face in their future HR jobs.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?

Team Eligibility:

    • Teams within or outside of Illinois may participate, but must be present in person.
    • Maximum of up to 3 (three) teams from each college/university campus.
    • Teams should include a minimum of 3 (three) team members, and maximim of 5 (five).
    • Switching teammates is permitted until the start of the games. However, there will be no switching of team members during the games.
    • Students from a college/university where no SHRM student chapter exists may form a team.
    • Faculty advisors should consider attending and cheering on the team!

WHEN DOES FUN START?

The 2023 Student Games will be held March 25th from 8 am – 4:00 pm at Loyola – Water Tower Campus, 900 N. Michigan, Chicago, IL – Corboy Law Center, 15th Floor, building #3 on the map: https://www.luc.edu/media/lucedu/pdfs-campusmaps/wtc.pdf. There are several nearby hotels in the area. More information will be provided to registrants as we approach the event.
Case study will be given in advance
    • Registration from 8:00 am – 9:00 am
    • Case Competition is from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
    • Schools attending but not competing in the Case Competition can attend learning sessions from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
    • Networking and judge deliberation – 2:00 – 3:30 pm
    • Case Competition Winner Presentation and Closing Remarks – 3:30 pm

HOW DOES IT WORK?

All teams will submit their presentation materials in advance. A time will be assigned to present to the panel of 3 judges. The presentation should be between 15-30  minutes, with 10-15 minutes at the end for questions. Judges will score the teams on the oral presentation and the teams’ ability to analyze the information presented in the case and clearly and effectively communicate the recommended course of action, using a scoring rubric.

March 6, 2023 – Deadline to Register

March 6, 2023 – Case Release – team captains will receive case via email

March 24, 2023 – Presentations/Executive Summary Due – 5:00 pm Central Time

March 25, 2023 – ILSHRM Student Case Competition

Dress Code & Rules

  • Dress comfortable, and professional.
  • Avoid wearing collegiate apparel which would reveal the team’s institution.
  • Stay positive, flexible, supportive and kind to yourself and others.
  • Refer to virtual tips sheet.
  • Practice dignity, inclusion and respect to all.
  • Have fun!
