Call for Volunteers and Sponsors: 2018 ILSHRM Student Conference and Case Competition

The ILSHRM State Council is pleased to announce the annual Student Conference and Case Competition will be held on April 6th & 7th, 2018 at the National Louis University downtown Chicago campus.  The purpose of this conference is to provide a unique learning experience for HR students exploring career opportunities in the human resources profession.

We rely on industry volunteers to make this event a success.  This is a great opportunity to connect with future HR leaders and to keep abreast of which skills are being taught.

Who are we looking for to get involved?

  • HR Certified professionals to be a Judge for the HR Games or Case Competition.
  • Speakers to deliver content relevant to current HR issues, trends, legislation, etc.
  • Sponsors needed to support a feature of the conference and showcase their company.
We need 40 volunteers to make this event a success.

HR Games (Friday)

Join us at 5:30pm for dinner, networking, and volunteer training.  Following the training the games begin, and we expect the competition to end at 9:00pm.

Judge (PHR/SPHR/SHRM-SCP Certified): It is your responsibility to decide whether an answer provided by a team is correct or incorrect. If the answer the team gives is different from that on your answer sheet, use your discretion in ruling it correct or incorrect.

Host/Alex Trebek: You are responsible for providing rules/announcements to competing teams.  In addition, it is your responsibility to read the questions for each team to answer and to determine which team buzzes in first.

Timekeeper: You are responsible for making sure the game stays on track with time.  It is up to you to inform the presenter if neither team answers in a timely fashion.  You also call the game when time is up.

HR Case Competition (Saturday)

Join us at 9:00am for volunteer training.  Following training, you will be assigned to judge during the preliminary rounds and/or final round of the competition.

Judge (PHR/SPHR/SHRM-SCP Certified): You will be part of a panel that will judge the oral presentations based on the rubric provided.  Once the final round is complete and the winners announced, the judge may provide tips and feedback to students.

Case Competition Team Connector: You will be responsible for directing teams to the judging rooms and ensure the presentations are available on the computer.  You are also tasked with keeping time and ensuring all teams adhere to the rules of the Case Competition.

We are seeking dynamic speakers to deliver practical information and real-world insights.  Recommended subject matter may include but is not limited to recruiting, leadership, strategy, communication, diversity & inclusion, professional development, legal updates, data analytics, etc. This is not an all-inclusive list and we encourage submitting new and exciting topics.

We are looking for speakers for the following sessions:

  • Opening session Friday Evening (30 – 45 mins) sets the tone for our conference.  The program needs to cover a topic that will apply to all attendees and be engaging and interactive.
  • Concurrent sessions on Saturday morning (15 – 20 mins) are short presentations delivered to smaller audiences.
  • Closing Session Saturday Afternoon (30 – 45 mins) will bring together the entire conference experience. The program needs to cover a topic that will apply to all attendees and be engaging and interactive.

The ILSHRM Student Case Competition offers an excellent opportunity to show your corporate support of the student community and to help develop tomorrows leader today. By doing so, you have a unique opportunity to promote your business, its people, products and services to select groups of individuals from across Illinois.  (e.g. conference swag, sponsor lunch/breaks, competition award, etc.) Contact Lori McCombs to secure sponsorship (913)948-8623.

*In-kind donations of $100 or more are greatly appreciated and all donors will receive recognition at the conference.
