HR Games & Case Competition

The ILSHRM HR Games and Case Competition is an annual academic team competition where university students within the State of Illinois test their HR knowledge in a Jeopardy-style game format or compete in the Case Competition and present a solution to a business case scenario.  This event is a fun way to prepare students for the human resources profession, engage with local HR practitioners, network with future HR leaders, and hear from keynote speakers.

HR Games

Teams of three students test their academic knowledge answering HR related questions over multiple rounds in a Jeopardy-style game format.  The teams that earn the most points in the match advance to the next round.  The top two teams advance to Final Jeopardy and the team with the most points wins.

Case Competition

In a case competition, teams compete to deliver the best solution to a business case.   Teams submit a written executive summary, deliver an oral presentation and defend the solution to a panel of HR certified judges. The competition prepares student teams for the annual SHRM Regional Case Competition and Career Summit and provides learning opportunities to find strategic solutions to real-life business issues.

2017 ILSHRM Student Leadership Conference – HR Games and Case Competition

The 2017 ILSHRM Student Leadership Conference – HR Games and Case Competition was held at Northern Illinois University on March 31 and April 1, 2017.  The Northern Illinois University student SHRM chapter (NIU SHRM) hosted students and faculty advisors representing six universities, and HR professionals (including NIU alumni) who served in a variety of volunteer capacities – supporting the HR Games and Case Competition and facilitating “round table” career discussions and keynote speeches.

On Saturday, there was a case competition with six student teams participating.  The teams competed to deliver the best solution to a business case (details provided by Sikich, LLP), submitted a written executive summary, gave an oral presentation and defended the solution to a panel of HR certified judges. The winning team was Abby Wright, Karlie Hinman and Kellie Bergschneider from Illinois State University (pictured with Terry Bishop, NIU SHRM Faculty Advisor).
